We are a small charity passionately supporting neurodiverse children and their families, we are based in Hertfordshire
Up Community hired exclusively the swimming pool at Aspire Leisure Centre, Stanmore. Families had lots of splashing fun in the warm 30-32 degrees pool, with low lights and floats.
Families met up at DJ’s Play Park in Hemel Hempstead, giving the children a chance to run and jump around, they also have a wonderful sensory den onsite, and large café for adults to catch up over a coffee.
Up Community worked with the Borehamwood Fire station where we advised and donated equipment for their first ever inclusive ‘quiet hour’ on their annual open day, making it more accessible for Neurodiverse children and other additional needs children. This was a huge success and was rolled out to other Fire stations within Hertfordshire.
We started a Parent/ Guardian Carer’s meet up, intended to give support, advice and sign post for any further help/ advice. From this session we learnt that it was very difficult for parents/ guardians to come along with out children, as child care is so difficult. Up Community hosted our first sensory stay and play group at a local community centre in Borehamwood. Many families came and enjoyed the fun play in a calm and welcoming atmosphere and parents/ guardians were able to meet and make new friends.
With a festive themed sensory stay and play group, we were able to facilitate this in a larger hall to create more space so we could include a bouncy castle and bubble machine for children and families to enjoy.
